modeling
and simulation
Consultantnet
base our designs on understanding the true nature of a system, often
the most efficient method of achieving this is to create a theoretical
model of the design and simulate its performance over the full operating
range and tolerances. This philosophy underpins all of our work
and allows us to take a risk averse approach to design problems.

Zeemax
– can be used in a non-sequential ray tracing mode allowing
us to design and anlyse any photometric or radiometric problem.Non-sequential
ray-tracing has recently been used to model systems looking
at back-scattered radiation from particulates in a fluid,
predict the signal levels detected by a turbidity meter, design
parametric and non-parametric reflectors, model unusal bulb
arrangements and predict signal levels in an weld head quality
meter. |

|
| Zeemax was
originally developed to model classical sequential ray-tracing
and such was its success that it has become a de facto standard
for many industries. Easy to use and interface with, it permits
the full analysis of any optical system, including aberration
analysis, mtf performance, diffraction |

Consultantnet
can offer you the support of gifted optical designers with
many years of experience in the design, analysis, and construction
of optical systems.
Finite Element Analysis |
 |
| Femlab
– allows us to address a whole raft of problems that are
beyond the grasp of many designers – fluid flow, electrostatics,
thermal analysis, micromechanics, structural mechanics can all
be dealt with using this powerful tool. The software permits
equation based modelling so even if your application is not
covered explicitly by the standard templates we can adapt the
code to solve the problem. |

Full 3-D
mechanical design and layout facilities allow us to prepare
realistic models of a new product, check tolerances, avoid
clashes and determine the space envelope for the electronics. |

model on the right, prepared using Solidworks, highlighted some
assembly problems arising from the position of the LCD screen
(shown in green), this resulted in a design change before prototype
manufacture, seen on the right. |
